The taboo in the age of AI: Human tenacity

Let’s get straight to the point. If you think success in sales comes easy, especially thanks to AI, you’re in for a rude awakening.

The divide between those who thrive and those who struggle has never been greater, and it often boils down to one thing: effort.

Many founders underestimate the sheer volume of work required to build a sustainable pipeline.

You can have the best product, and even an ever expanding budget for AI, but if you lack discipline, nothing is going to work.

The effort required today isn’t the same as it was even two years ago.

You no longer need to simply “put in the effort” through manual research or keeping on top of your CRM.

You need to bring your skills, decision-making, analytical thinking, and critical thinking to the next level.

We’re quickly removing the human element from sales every day and replacing it with AI and fully automated systems.

And yet, human tenacity may matter more than ever.

Looking back, grinding was perhaps easier than what the current market conditions require.

Before we continue…

I recently published “Breaking the Referral Rut,” a book that’s resonated with many clients and readers. It lays out a low-effort system to generate 20+ leads per week in a step-by-step format.

The truth is, effective lead generation still requires persistence, continuous learning, and executing on processes.

You may have sent a few emails, tested a couple of approaches, and still not be seeing the results you hoped for.

At that point, the answer isn’t simply to send more emails or work longer hours.

You need to improve the quality of your approach. Your sales skills, decision-making, analytical thinking, and understanding of your market all need to be at another level.

#1 Increase the quality and quantity of touchpoints

The first step is recognizing that most email campaigns don’t succeed on the first try.

However, the effort is no longer about setting task reminders and simply putting in the hours. You must build a machine that builds a machine, so you can send 4–6 relevant, highly personalized, and unique touchpoints at scale to hundreds or thousands of prospects.

This is not trivial, but it has to be done, as your competition is paying thousands of dollars in tokens and sales consultants to outwit you.

It’s time to graduate from simply working hard to working smart.

#2: Build a strong tech stack

Invest in tools that improve your outreach and keep your process streamlined.

The right tech stack isn’t just about efficiency; it’s about optimizing the impact of your work.

A CRM, email automation tools, LinkedIn tools, AI and enrichment tools, analytics software, sales enablement and more are all part of the equation.

The sales tools landscape is massive. The effort now isn’t just about following a cookie-cutter recommendation you read online.

Now it’s about understanding the available tools and being able to put together the right combination from each category to work perfectly for your use case.

#3: Embrace repetition and doing the boring work

AI (for now) can’t take your B2B sales calls.

Closing at 30–35% with a cold audience requires more than just a script.

You need to practice your complete sales pitch, from discovery and closing to handling objections, every single day.

This repetition builds confidence and prepares you for real conversations.

There is no shortcut.

What you sub-communication: confidence, certainty, brevity, and understanding of the market will make the difference.

This cannot be faked. This has to be earned.

The main point is this: AI allows us to 400–500x our productivity and output.

However, the competition benefits from the same lift as well.

The AI companies and AI wrapper companies will sell you the dream all day long, and some of it is definitely true. AI is a great equalizer. But…

All things being roughly equal, human tenacity will be the deciding factor.

The founder, sales rep, or revenue team that puts in the extra effort, tolerates pain for longer, and creates a culture of continuous improvement when others settle will ultimately win.

AI has lowered the value of manual effort, but increased the value of judgment, skill, persistence, and execution.
